Exposing the mechanisms of patriarchy became the raison d'etre of feminist criticisms which basically targeted the cultural mindset perpetuating sexual inequality. This is an attempt at transcending the masculine as the normal purchase of every existing mode of thinking. Women's writing, which may be treated as a special kind of writing, is an independent genre involved in resituating of the idiom of experience within the larger field of cultural representation. As a constructivist endeavour, this collection from different regions may be seen as examining how gender is less determined by nature than by culture. It is hoped that the selections in this anthology will serve to provoke a reading against the grain. Dr Saji K S is Associate Professor of English at BPC College, Piravom, Kerala.
